Model Rail(road) Plan

Just a plan or a dream

Multifunctional table with model railroad sceneery inside
Multi-functional table with model railroad - table top in an other way

Endless story - caught in eternal planning, not reality!

Ersatz - temporary solution: high traveling functional table with NOCH briefcase ready-made scenery Sonnenalpe (Engl.: sun alp) in N scale. One house and one tree had to be made pluggable, because less than one finger thick installation depth was missing.

Eckanlage mit Paradestrecke (Engl.: corner layout with display line), in: Joachim M. Hill, Modellbahn-Anlageplanung, 3rd edition, Düsseldorf, Alba-Verlag, 1991 (Alba Modellbahnpraxis Band 2, ISBN 3-87094-553-3) is the inspiration for the big layout.
Adapted for N scale (1:160) the squares with stroke-dotted line have a length of 330 mm (approx. 13 inches).

Model railroad corner layout
The eternal model railroad dream. Never realized but improved all the time

Electrified (cat wire) double-tracked main line leaves the underground in south-east, runs in the foreground along the locomotive depot and disappears to the underground in the north-west again. The single-tracked line branches of behind the depot about in the middle of the scenery and runs through a loop in the south-west to the station in the upper level. There it splits. The line in the background, designed for push-pull trains, ends in a mall park station (see insert) in the far south-east. The line in the foreground runs over the depot area on a great bridge into a loop to the underground, passes under the station and appears west of it again. There is a branch, either to the incline heading for the main line or to the ramp for the station approach.
The »rail egg« in the depot area is just an option. Probably there will be left just one single siding to reach the branch.
The line in the underground is not clear yet. But much speaks for designing a »dog bone« (squeezed oval) arrangement with a park station for trains with about 1 700 mm. So for instance trains built with nine 26.4 m Eurofima wagons with an overall length of 165 mm. Whether this station is equipped with points or a big sliding board/service table is not cleared yet.

Technique and material

Electronic control then anytime will be done by analogue self-block operation with constant current and additional driving transformer, if necessary. PC control rather improbable. - Otherwise I could truly watch the trains at the Nuremberg main station...
For the moment analogue, because the present vehicle pool - from period I (e.g. Adler) to IV (e.g. Airport-Express) - is well-hung. Suppliers were especially Arnold N, Fleischmann piccolo, Minitrix and Roco. But the digitization will surely strike.
